EU report highlights challenges in reaching digital goals

Jul 10, 2024 | EU institutions, News

On July 2nd 2024, the European Commission released its second annual report on the State of the Digital Decade, assessing progress toward the EU’s digital goals for 2030. This year’s report includes an analysis of the national strategic roadmaps submitted by Member States. These roadmaps outline each country’s planned actions and funding to support the EU’s digital transformation.

The report reveals that current efforts by Member States are not enough to meet the EU’s ambitious digital targets. More investment is needed in several key areas, including digital skills, high-quality internet connectivity, AI and data analytics in businesses, semiconductor production, and start-up ecosystems.

Both the EU and its Member States must enforce new digital laws, promote digital technologies, and ensure citizens have the skills to thrive in a digital world. The report calls for stronger action from Member States to achieve the Digital Decade goals, which are essential for the EU’s future economic success and social cohesion.
